When it comes to Christmas, food is one of my favourite things about the festive season. I look forward to two things each year; advent calendars and cheese boards, with both getting my firmly into the Christmas spirit.

However every year my dog looks on sadly as I open my advent calendar doors and scoff the chocolate each morning, or tries in vein to snaffle some brie from the charcuterie board on the table. Not this year, though. This year I’ve decided to treat her to the Pooch & Mutt Cheese Fondue Dog Advent Calendar 2024, so she too can enjoy a cheesy treat each day.

The dog-friendly advent calendar is a bargain at £10, and the treats have been carefully designed to be friendly to dogs of all ages and dietary needs. It doesn’t contain real cheese, of course, which we all know isn’t good for your furry friends.

Instead there’s a selection of meaty treats behind every door, each with a cheese fondue flavour. All of the treats are grain-free, and are suitable for puppies aged 12 weeks upwards to senior dogs.

There are 24 doors in total, just like our favourite human advent calendars, with one cheese wedge treat behind each door – just enough to give them a little treat each day without overdoing it. They also provide a great source of calcium, to help keep their teeth and bones healthy, as well as containing turkey, which is a brilliant source of low-fat protein for your pooch. Collagen is also a main ingredient in the treats, helping form healthy skin, with probiotics also included to help with digestion.

Pooch & Mutt also offers a Luxury Dental Stick Advent Calendar for £19.99. This calendar has 24 doors with individually wrapped dental sticks behind each one.

It also comes in plenty of different flavours, including limited edition cheese fondue, peanut butter, calming hemp and sage, and superfood spirulina and mint. Each one helps give your pup healthy teeth and gums, with ingredients including lignocellulose which is a natural source of fibre, and of course SHMP, to prevent tartar build-up to keep teeth looking sparkling and clean.

Elsewhere, you can get Lily’s Kitchen Dog Advent Calendar for £11.99, which contains a range of meat-based treats including chicken, turkey and beef which are grain-free and soft and easy to chew. If your furry friend is on a very strict diet, this ANOTION 12 Days of Christmas Dog Toys Advent Calendar 2024, £26.99 on Amazon, contains 12 different durable and fun toys for dogs of all sizes.
