Actor Hugh Jackman's rumoured relationship with Sutton Foster is said to be the reason why he's been divorcing Deborra-Lee Furness.
Hugh, now 56, worked with Sutton, 49, on the Broadway revival of the Music Man, which ran from February 2022 to January 2023. Months later, he announced his separation from his wife Deborra-Lee, 68, in September last year and last month Sutton filed for divorce from her husband Ted Griffin, 53.
It has since been claimed that Hugh and Sutton had an "affair". A source told Us Weekly: "Sutton and Hugh's relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced. A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap."
One source told the outlet that Deborra-Lee, who married Hugh in 1996 and with whom he shares his two children, was "blindsided" when she "found out about the affair" through the show's run. They said that she was "the last to know" and had wanted to save the marriage, but Hugh's relationship with Foster continued, it's been claimed.
Us Weekly also reports that Deborra-Lee reacted to a post on Instagram by content creator Tasha Lustig from October 26 that alleged an affair between Hugh and Sutton. Alongside a photo of Hugh and Sutton posing together on a red carpet in 2022, Tasha said in the video: "Do y'all remember when I said this man was up to no good. That he blindside his wife and he was running off with the mistress. Well, it seems that they wanna soft-launch this now."
The outlet reports that Deborra-Lee "liked" it from a private account only visible to people she follows on the platform. Whilst former TV presenter Amanda de Cadenet, an apparent friend of Deborra-Lee's, replied to Tasha's post, writing in the comments section: "You are on point with this one. My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi!"
Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced their separation in a joint statement last year. The statement shared with the public read: "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."
The statement released by the former couple concluded by telling fans: "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
